What I Designed
Hadn't taken enough photographs this year to do the regular family-pics photo card, so was scrambling for what to do. Spent several days brainstorming what the time of year means to me. Saw the vector on iStockphoto.com and recognized immediately what I wanted to say.
How I Designed It
- photo #10903442 purchased under license of iStock
- placed photo into InDesign portrait document
- researched appropriate Scripture verses
- experimented with fonts
- laid-out design for 2 cards per cardstock page (duplex)
- added personal photos and message
- exported to pdf for print on Epson Stylus Color 860; sent snail mail
Advice
- Be real: work to identify your personal message, not simply a cliche greeting or easy twist on someone else's sentiment
- Be courageous: know that you have something to offer; state it as simply as possible
- Be professional: even designs for personal or pro bono work must highlight your strengths and be executed as perfectly as possible. You never know where new work may come from!
