What I Designed
This year, I sent my holiday card via email. My goal with the design was to keep it fun, as a holiday card is a good time to keep away from some of the usual restrictions seen in client projects. I also didn't want to focus on any one holiday, so I stuck to the snowman and no holiday-specific colors. From there, of course I wanted a design theme so I went with an old type tray and a snowman made out of 100% letters.
How I Designed It
I used Photoshop to create the card, iStock stock images for the tray and "Happy Holidays" letters and Campaign Monitor to deliver it by email. The stock letters were actually a full alphabet that I cut out to write "Happy Holidays." For the snowman, I created many layers of individual characters in different typefaces, with some slight 3-D effect on them. I used an image of a snowman and "built" the letter snowman on top of it, then hid that layer.
Advice
- My main advice to others would be to have fun with it, but keep it professional, hopefully leading to some new work!
