UrbanFonts.com is a well-designed free font website with over 8,000 freeware fonts for download. UrbanFont’s attractive site makes browsing fonts easier than on some of the other free font sites. Top font keyword searches are highlight on the home page in “cloud” format, along with featured free downloads. Fonts can be browsed alphabetically or by category, such as “gothic” and “futuristic.”
Once browsing a selection of fonts, a quick toggle button allows you to switch between a view of characters (A through H) or text. You can also type in your own text, allowing you to see the fonts in the phrase of your choice. Once on a font detail page, you can view sample text, the full character set, and change the font and background color. This is helpful for a quick view of your font as you intend to use it. Windows and Mac downloads are available, as well as ratings and comments on each typeface. Be sure to check license rights on each font before using them, by reading the files included in your download, as they are not all freeware.
