Holiday Design

Holiday card designs can sometimes be a bit on the ordinary side. For designers, it can be difficult to come up with a new concept every year, and you know the pressure we put on ourselves when it comes to personal or internal projects.  Holiday design inspiration can come from many different places including holiday movie posters, the design work of fellow designers and stock photography sites.

One of my favorite recent design stories was about Brandon Martinez, a high school student from Washington, DC who used the presidential seal to inspire his holiday design. He submitted it to a White House competition and first lady Michelle Obama ended up using it on thousands of holiday party invitations. It was the first time in 30 years that student art was featured on a White House holiday invitation.
