Not Tweeting or LinkingIn?

Follow me on:

The results of our social networking poll show that while over 20% of those who answered are using MySpace or Facebook for their business, less than 10% are using Twitter and LinkedIn. These sites can be extremely powerful networking tools, and I'd recommend them to anyone looking for new ways to market their design business. On Twitter, you can reach a whole different audience than you may be reaching with your blog, newsletter, or other methods of communication... especially in the design and technology communities. Setting up a LinkedIn profile is fast, easy and free, and it can really help spread your business network. Please share any of your social networking success, or no success, stories in the comments.

I keep hearing about how powerful on-line networking is, but has anyone actually gotten work thru on-line networking? If so, what’s the trick? I’m not hearing a thing, so I’m obviously not doing something right! I’m on LinkedIn and Facebook, all I get is connections with prior colleagues and friends, no job leads.

You may want to try myspace. Most kids/adults use that more then facebook. You could also use Twitter. I’m in high school but I plan to do graphic design.

A lot of people find job opportunities or the contacts that help you get to those opportunities using online professional networking. I actually got my upcoming job by contacting a manager in the department of the company in which I was interested and scheduling an informational interview which then led to him requesting and sending my resume to the HR department.

One of the most powerful weapons of the career search in today’s job market is LinkedIn, and I would definitely recommend LinkedIn to all professionals.

I’m on Twitter and I have a blog for my online shop. But not LinkedIn yet. Guess I need to check into that.
