Domain Names

Thursday November 13, 2008

Choosing a domain name for your portfolio or a client's website is a difficult task... largely in part because so many (SO many) names are taken. To make it worse, a great deal are taken just for resale and are expensive. I know I've spent hours thinking up names, trying them out, and getting not-so-great recommendations from web services.

"Short is sweet" definitely comes into play here, but getting a short domain is hard these days, so it may come down to focusing on a two-word (or three) phrase that clearly speaks to your audience, is easy to spell, and hopefully ends with that desired ".com."

I agree on this. One note that I would recommend on choosing a domain name is to seperate words with hyphens for SEO purposes, e.g. if you sell health books, try something like health-books-sale.com.

Thanks for the info – don’t forget to post about the Australian domain name industry – it’s really starting to take off… Thanks again
