Election by Design

Thursday September 4, 2008

With the impending election, it's interesting to think about the different ways design impacts the campaigns and election process. Of course there are all the printed materials that go along with each candidate... today I saw a man on the subway wearing a large gold "Yes We Can" pin accompanied by a more classic round Obama pin, printed in Hebrew. Scott Hansen of ISO50 designed these beautiful prints, certainly not the typical campaign posters.

What really caught my attention was AIGA's Design for Democracy, which encouraged thoughtful information design for ballots and other election materials. With so much controversy in the past surrounding the confusion over ballots, it's great to see design being put to good use in making voting easier for all.
