Paul Rand

Sunday March 2, 2008

Paul Rand is one of the most famous and influential graphic designers in history. He is best known for his logo design and corporate branding, creating timeless icons such as the IBM and ABC television logos. He also attended some of the top design schools, and went on to teach at and receive honorary degrees from them and other institutions.

It's amazing that one man created so many logos that we see everyday. He also influenced generations of designers through his unique style. Who are your favorite graphic designers, past and present?

I think that Paul Rand is clearly the most influential designer to date. He is widely considered to be the father of graphic design. I think the lesson to be learned from Paul Rand is that in many situations a logo or layout doesn’t need bells and whistles. What I take from his design is that he creates, for example, logos that are simple yet intuitive and unique.

We like Saul Bass work, especially his movie posters and opening credits in movies.
