Shared Workspace

Wednesday January 23, 2008

Whether they work in a loft downtown or at a desk in the corner of a living room, designers have always had a thing for comparing their workspaces. This Ain't No Disco is a website dedicated to photo galleries of design firm offices from around the world. It can be inspiring, or depressing (if your desk is as messy as mine), to see the incredible creative spaces in which our design peers work.

So speaking of my messy workspace, and sharing, here is what surrounds me:

  • My iMac
  • My trusty Moleskin notebook for phone meetings
  • Gadgets... scanner, iPod, digital camera
  • Design books on all topics, within reach
  • Vintage Crayola tin filled with business cards
  • Sony studio headphones for late night work
  • 1980 Spiderman Spider Copter

What surrounds you?

I’ll play! In my immediate space I have:
On my “Desk” (an 8 foot long dining room table I picked up for 60 bucks):
- Imac (for print work)
- Mac book Pro (do my webwork on it)

On the Floor:
- “baby Nest” on the floor – blanket strewn with all types of soft (and noisy) toys
- PS2

Misc:
- Frank the Jade Plant
- 19 inch TV to watch all the Star Trek: Vyager I have DVR’d

On the Walls:
Nothing; I ‘m going for the Spartan school of decorating

I am a beginning scholar with graphic design. I would only venture to say that in long enough time to get the basics yet short enough time for the space I will be all set in what I would hope is not a big a mess as you all claim your in.
